Day +8  I have been getting slightly sore in my mouth and throat and today it is worse.  They will give pain meds, but I'm on so many meds I don't want to take anymore unless I absolutely need it.  My guts are acting up a little, I expected this to happen.  Today I got two units of red blood, tomorrow will probably platelets again.  I'm amazed at how many people go through stem cell transplants.  The beds on this floor are usually full.  It's really sad.  I actually learned to tell where other people are by whats hanging on their IV pole.  That's how bored I am.  I can't wait to go into the apartment, at least then I won't feel locked up.  I was telling the nurse that I want to go the museum of science and industry, she reminded me I need to avoid crowds:(  There are plenty of shops in the area including and Orvis fishing store:)

God Bless,
Scott

The Blood Drive is today, and I can't wait to see pictures and hear how it goes. I guess they are "full". I don't know what that means numbers wise, but I know they had at least 55 people pre registered. We might have to do another one in a couple months!!!

WE ARE BACK IN THE BUNKER!!! Last night about 7pm we moved back to the bigger room on the north wing. I feel calmer already.

Yesterday was the anniversary of Scott and mine's first date. We normally would re-enact it by going on a bicycle ride along the east river trail in Green Bay, and then dinner at the Rite Place which is on the trail. Best date of my life, and best 5 years and counting. I got Scott a Columbia fishing cap with the apron on the back to protect him from the sun and he got me a shirt (ok I got it and told him he got it :).

My BFF Maria left this morning. It was so nice to see her. She felt guilty for having a good time, and I did too. It is very hard to even go for a walk knowing Scott had not had a breath of outside air in 15 days. Hard to believe he did that for 51 days last time.

Please pray that we continue to follow the "plan" without added complications like last time. Say it out loud if you can!

GOD Please let Scott's treatment work as designed and his donor cells to engraft and create a new, disease free, system for him. Please let the bad side effects be minimal, and allow him to gain more strength every day.
AMEN.

So much Cancer out there. Seems like everyone knows someone or has it themselves. We often talk about how we are so blessed, and how there is always someone worse off than us. We have met young people with Cancer and just think it is such a crime. Here is a story of the niece of a fellow police officer that has Multiple Myloma. It is another blood cancer. Here is the link to the story in the Manitowoc paper. Really makes you stop and be grateful for all that you have and all that you take for granted.

  1. Hi Scott and Betty. The blood drive was a success!! Last time Corie checked, 87 people had donated blood today. I know some people tried to donate blood, but couldn't due to low iron counts and mad cow disease...yes, I did say mad cow disease. Apparently if you lived in certain countries in Europe during certain time periods, you could have been exposed to mad cow disease and are disqualified from donating blood. I thought that was interesting, but it's good to know that they really screen the donors to protect the people that are receiving the blood. I took some pictures before I sorta, kinda passed out from donating blood. Oops!! John Musial snapped some more pictures after I was out of commission. I will email them to you and you can post them on the blog. Stay Positive!! Everyone there today was thinking about you and we all know you will beat this! Jen and Corie

  2. Hey Scott!

You are such an inspiration! Look at you on that bike! Now I need to get on my own bike, and go for a ride with Jr., who got a new bike for his Bday. That day might be tomorrow, the day I start my diet....yeah, that's it....

Congrats on the hometown Blood Drive. That's going to help lots of people. Kind of makes you think about how people are being touched.

Saying my prayers out loud for you, Brother!! FYI, that's really weird for me, being Catholic. Generally, we don't often pray aloud, and when we do, no louder than a murmur. Kind of quiet and serious. As for Protestants, they know how to raise the roof. We know it, too. When our Pastor, Father Jack Wall, wants us to sing louder he says, ''Come on, let's sing like Protestants" HA!! How funny is that? What a Joy it is to experience our faith. No doubt, God is with us all.

    Bless you and Betty!

    Love,
    Matt
