Happy fourth of July.  We went to northwestern yesterday, another hot day in Chicago.  I got labs drawn first, then the dreaded bone marrow biopsy.  Dreaded because it is painful, and because the results will tell us how much of my blood system is my donor and how much is left of me.  It will also tell if the cancer is back.  During the biopsy she has to get marrow first and then a chunk of bone.  Lucky me I have very strong bones and she was working hard to get that chunk.  One time she hit a spot and I got such a sharp pain I kicked my legs up and almost flipped her little table she uses to hold the tools.  Let me tell you when there is no meat on your pelvis, it is very touchy after the procedure.  I can't lay on my back and I sit with my body shifted in the chair so the biopsy sight doesn't get any pressure on it.  Then I saw Doctor Olga and she said it is common for numbers to go up and down, however she prefers they continually go upwards.  She said she will get the preliminary results on the biopsy on Friday.  She said what we do next depends on that result.  If all is well she is talking about starting to taper the anti rejection med.    She is concerned about my digestive system because I have too much activity in that are.  I may get scoped next time I go down there to make sure there isn't graft vs host issues at the heart of it.  I think it's from all the meds I take.  I'll post when I get some results.  I  know this is more than many of you needed to know, but the people following this blog that are facing a transplant will probably find it helpful at some point.

God Blees,
Scott

  2. Scott I am in awe reading your blog your positive attitude, and information is never too much, for those of us not going through this it is a look at what you live, and for those that may go through it this is a roadmap.

    Thanks for all you do

  3. Hey Scott. Thanks for the update. Hope you enjoyed the fireworks last night. I'm sorry the biopsy site is so painful. It makes me sad that you are forced to slow down...again. Betty said you have been doing quite a bit since you got home. Praying that your results are reassuring and the path ahead is bright. God bless you both.
