Reel Recovery

WXOW News 19 La Crosse, WI – News, Weather and Sports |

Wednesday through Friday I attended a program called Reel Recovery.  It is available to all men who face a life threatening cancer.  I thought this was going to be about fly fishing but it really wasn't.  It was about a group of men talking about their situations with cancer and how men deal with it.  I had the best group to be with.  Everyone was open, inspiring, and feelings were shared beyond my expectations.  We are all better for attending.  Oh, and we got to fish also.  I would encourage anyone to sign up and participate, it was a GREAT experience.  Just type in reelrecovery.org   All you have to do is get there and everything else is free, donated by sponsors.  They have these all over the US.  If I am able health wise I want to do two things to give back.  I would like to volunteer to be a fishing buddy for the next Reel Recovery, and I was to sign up to be an Immerman Angel.  This was a program I used at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.  They match people with cancer to a survivor with a same or similar cancer.  I communicated with my Angel, Sherry, via e-mail and she was very helpful, and she is a survivor:)  That is really important to a person going through this and wondering about all the procedures and, of course, the outcome.  If you go to the link for the news in LaCrosse, they did not put my full interview on, at the end I explained I was looking to get peace and closer to my Lord from the Reel Recovery, but I guess they don't want to put anything religious on.  It was rather disappointing, but they have their job and they were very nice.  For women there is a similar thing done in Michigan by a different group.

God Bless,
Scott
