Donor Dan and I spoke on the phone on Saturday. I had to face the question in my mind, what do I say, how does one put this type of gift into words. "Dan" is a fine young man, he comes across as kind, unselfish, and modest. I could only come up with "thank you' as there aren't words that say it better. He is from Washington State and next year Betty and I plan to go and meet him in person. We were going to Yellowstone and fly fishing in Montana anyway, so we'll just add a day or two and maybe I'll get to see the Pacific Ocean. "Dan" explained that he was in a counseling session just prior to donating and the people in his group compared how well they matched their patients, and he and I were the best match in the group. That explains why I have had it pretty good as far as any rejections issues go. I am truly blessed. I will still use the name "Dan" because I don't know how "Dan" would feel about me using his name on the blog.
God Bless,
Scott
What a special gift Dan has given you...the gift of life. What a random act of kindness it is to save the life of a stranger. I wish I could do that now, but having been compromised with my own transplant (and my age!), I'd never be accepted as a candidate. I'm sure you feel the same way. Keep up the fight, friend. We can always find ways to keep the kindness going in the right diretion. Keep posting. I'm listening, as I'm sure others are, too.

ReplyDeleteYou can use my real name. No worries there. I like your new blog photo. Relaxed with a Sam Adams. If you have a reaction to the gluten, then we'll know my stem cells are really in charge. HA! ;-D
