On Tuesday after work I went to get my labs drawn.  I came back very low on platelets and low for white and red counts.  My liver was again high and messed up.  I went to Chicago to see Dr. Frankfurt on Thursday, the whole time thinking the evil AML was back and thinking about what I would be willing to go through for treatment.  I have always been a worst case scenario type guy.  I prayed a lot and Dr. Frankfurt didn't think it was the cancer, she thought it was from an infection.

They did a bone marrow biopsy and today, Friday, she just called to tell me it's not AML, but my marrow is depleted somewhat.  I have a pneumonia and maybe some GVHD.  So I have to get a shot on Monday to raise my platelet count and I have to get a bronchial swab.  Yes they actually block your jaw open and stick a very long swab down into your lung and get a sample.   The hope is to find out what type of bug, give me the right med to get rid of it, and then my blood counts should return to where they were.

Thank you Lord, the cancer is not back.  She  then pulled some strings and called again tell me that I'm not losing the graft, my marrow is 100% Dorian Jepsen (my donor).   She feels that once the infection gets better my counts will go back up.  I have to rest and my counts are low so I'm going to be on a few sick days.  Oh yea, no more beer fore a long time:(

God Bless,
Scott

  1. I know exactly what that fear feels like each and every time I get lab work or get a biopsy! Thank goodness. Sorry to hear its an infection but glad to hear you are still 100% donor. Yea maybe no more beer and lots more veggies. Quick question, have you ever had your mineral levels checked? Like copper? Remember both me and my fiancé have MDS, his blood counts are back to normal except the whites by supplementing with copper for 8 months now since he was low. I still don't regret I was fixed by a donor, but its always something to check out. they don't test you for somethings unless you ask. God bless you Scott and your donor. I still hope to meet mine someday too.
