Today I went toBellin for magnesium.  I am now down to once a week and soon I should be done with the tacrolimus drug that depletes my magnesium.  I went from .5 to .3 yesterday for the anti rejection drug, two more weeks and I'll be down to .1 and then off it completely.  My numbers are still low but today all of them were up slightly, so it's headed in the right direction.  Tuesday I'll get another bone marrow biopsy and I'll have to wait a week to get the results.  I'm feeling strong, not really gaining weight, but I am gaining muscle.  I may get to go back to work soon if a one time light duty can be worked out.  It's not because I couldn't do patrol work, it's because my platelets are low and getting into a physical confrontation could make me bleed internally.  Once my platelets come up I'll be good to go.  No graft vs host showing up yet :)  Hoping I'll get to take my chelation med soon so I can get rid of the 3500mg? of extra iron I'm holding onto from all the transfusions I had.  For anybody going through this I just want you to know I have a ferritin (iron) count of 4000, and I am feeling great.  The iron overload issues are a concern, but they told me that it is more a problem over long periods of time.  Normal high for ferritin is around 350 so I have a lot to shave off.

God Bless,
Scott

  2. Hi Scott and Betty, we hope all goes well with your biopsy tomorrow. We will pray for good results. I heard you were at the pd the other day. We got a call from Amanda this weekend and she told us, Adam proposed to her. They are planning for a summer wedding next year. Hayner and Sosnosky challenged Jeff and I at tennis, they said their gonna kick our old buts. I guess were are playing Monday at 3:00, if you can make it, you can try to volley with us for warm up and watch us play after. Take care.

  3. I'm sure you're not looking forward to the biopsy. I remember you saying how painfully uncomfortable that is. But the numbers are edging up..they're trending positively...you're feeling good. You are the Ironman...the triathlon variety that is. Keep on doing what you're doing and before you know it, you'll be back at work Officer Leist.
