What a difference a day makes

Scott is in the thick of it now, although thankfully he is avoiding fevers. He has mucocitious and his mouth and throat are painful. This is the norm for the chemo. Most people get a moraphine pump added to their Dilbert and can hit is when they need it. Scott hates to be on any more drugs than necessary, so went with a baby dose of Dilaudid which he can get every 2 hours through his IV but has only gotten twice. Our nurse yesterday, Cynthia Babler,( the one that is from Monroe Wisconsin and knows my snowmobile friends from there quite well) talked extensively with Scott about pain management and how he should get ahead of it instead of putting himself through it. God Bless her. If I say it it's nagging, but if it comes from a professional, it is better received.

Scott is still sleeping, which is good. I wish he could just sleep for a week and wake up feeling great. His heels have blisters on them, and he has band aids on several fingernails now to keep them from getting caught on something and ripping off. I know he is frustrated about that. Can't open anything with his hands. Then nails will grow back. He does not and should not talk much, his throat is too sore. The best thing for him now is no stress, no drama, and no surprises. He has enough with the fight of a lifetime going on inside his body. Of course we want the other guy (Donor Dan) to win, so that is why he needs to take a few punches.  He is a natural worrier, and the physical and emotional stress on him right now is more than most people will even imagine in their lifetimes.

So things are bad but manageable, if any good came out of the first hospital stay, it is that it doesn't get much worse than that. He really damn near died last time.

Pastor Aaron came with communion yesterday. Love that guy. I think the reason he is go good is that he truly loves what he is doing here at the hospital. It is an internship, he was a pastor for 20 years and this is a change. He puts in tons of hours n different areas of the hospital, and we were lucky enough to get him when he started in oncology. He said he likes how he gets to meet people will all different religious backgrounds. He is a good man.

So here is a picture I took 2 days ago of Scott riding the bike on the Wii video game. You march in place on a pad on the floor to make the pedals move, and use the controller like handlebars to steer. Not as fun as a real bike ride, but fun. Plus a dog (Micky) runs along side him.

Please say a prayer that Scott gets through the next days and weeks comfortably. Bye for now.

  1. Thanks for the update Betty, I am praying very hard for him and so are the people I run into. Everyone asks about him. The Ignara boys say hi and wish him speedy recovery, a guy from Muskegan Piston, last name Pardner, Pam from kwik trip, Craig Pautz and many many more. Prayers are flowing, love you two. 3. I am thinking about you two everyday and what you have to go threw. Losing the nails really is hard because your fingers are so sensitive. But the nails do grow back and your fingers work just fine. I am praying hard that things get better real soon and get out of that hospital. Take Care, Nancy & Tom
