Happy Mother's Day!!

We just got woken up by the doctors!! I usually don't sleep this late but figured to go with it. Partially because the day are so long an partially because we don't get long stretches where we can sleep. They said everything is progressing as expected. Scott went on morphine yesterday, a pump where he can hit it every 15 minutes. It really takes the edge off his mouth and throat pain, but since he is not pushing it at night it gets bad. Now they are going to put him on a continuous morphine drip. The only question Scott had for the docs, even though it hurt his throat to talk, was when can I go fishing. Doc said no problem, but going to a cabin in the woods is out for at least 6 months. I asked if I could hang our laundry on the line and he said no problem, he was raised in India and all close were hung in the sun and he actually thinks it makes them cleaner!!! I love my clothesline that my wonderful husband put up for me.

Day +11  Very painful mouth and throat, my morphine ran out and I had to wait for a refill.  The doctors are put me on a low continous drip of morhine which should help.  If this is the worst it gets I will be very happy.  I get my last dose of  the chemo that controls whats left of my immune system from attacking the new stem cells.  That medication has a role in the mouth sores also, so getting the last of it means one more step to getting well.  I asked Dr. Mehta if fishing was going to be OK and he said for this year no northwoods/canada type trips but open country rivers and lakes would be fine.  I guess its more about being exposed to mold and fungis than the fish or water. I asked about scuba diving and he said for sure, not this first year.

Happy Mother's Day,
Scott

    1. Thanks Debbie. I just read this to Scott, or should I say Screamed it at him. His hearing is messed up again because of the Chemo...hope it returns a little like it did last time. Happy Mother's day to you also.

  3. Hey Scott.

The mouth sores definitely are the worst and the morphine helps but please do your best not to use it too much. They wont let you leave the hospital until you have been off of the stuff for 24 hours or so. The same goes for intravenous feeding if you end up having to use that. If you haven't done so already, I recommend trying a lidacaine(sp?) based mouth wash to help take the edge off.

  4. Scott, did you ask the Dr. when you could play tennis, seeing you asked about fishing and scuba. We could use clean balls everytime and tell Jeff to stop putting them up his shorts. Happy Mothers Day, Betty. Take care you two. Scott, start feeling better soon!
