My Ferritin level was very high, just short of 7000. I have had it as low as 1600, which would be acceptable, but it jumps around so much I don't know where it is really at. I'm going in to see the Doctor next week, but has anyone else had this and received an understandable explanation. I know any disruptance in your health can cause false high readings. Ironically Betty just sent me an email with the following :
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
I'm going to take the straight as no more ups and downs. It fits me perfectly because I think if I understand something I can fix it and it's hard for me when I can't fix something. This is definitely a fix that can be only accomplished at God's level. I included pics of Betty's new dog, Peanut. She belonged to a family in which the wife has cancer and couldn't spend enough time with her.
God Bless,
Scott
Scott, I don't reply often, but I check on you often! Sounds like the decision to retire is a prudent one. I'm older than you, and I was retired when I was diagnosed. I don't know how I could have endured it all and tried to work, too. I live every day in the NOW, and life is exceedingly good at the moment. Like you, I have a loving spouse who supports me and sustains me when the road gets rocky. For that, we are truly blessed. Sorry to hear the shingles caught up with you. They had me on prophylactic acyclovir for a long time, but discontinued it a couple months ago. Hopefully, I won't get it ;-( I have to wait until my 2-year birthday in July to get the herpes zoster vaccine that would prevent it. Your elevated ferritin is a mystery to me. I thought once we cleared it out of our system, unless we had further transfusions, it was gone. Can't imagine what made it climb to 7000 again. The liver enzymes are definitely affected by high ferritin, so that makes sense. Medications can also elevate the liver enzymes. It's all so entwined, it's crazy! I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season. I pray your shingles gives you a break! I'm heading to California to enjoy my children and grandchildren for the holiday. So happy to make it another year! Peanuts is a cutie. Take good care of yourself and don't get discouraged even though it's hard not to sometimes. Stay in touch and update us all as the world turns… Sherry, in North Carolina
