DAY 40

UPDATE - RASH - Scott has a rash on his trunk and legs. The dermatology team was in and they think it is a drug reaction - most likely to the chemo. I believe they are going to prescribe a cream. At least it is not itchy or bothersome.

This has been an extremely long day. We were assigned Ratchet again, and I went down and talk to the nursing manager to tell her I could not take it again. She said she could not guarantee that I would not get her in the future, but they would try and she would have a talk to the nurse about wearing gloves and better communications. Worst of all today is change the dressing on the PICC line day. That is the line that is inserted to within an inch or so of his heart. The nurses wear special gloves for that and masks. I told Ratchet we would wait until the night shift to have that changed. I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to be an advocate for Scott, who is still so foggy and sleepy that he can't be one for himself.  I thought he would read his emails, but he feel asleep trying.

My friend Anne Sprout sent down a wii game with two steering wheels. It is a driving game, and she told me to keep an eye on Scott's heart rate while playing because her husband REALLY gets into it. He tried it, and I believe liked it, but told me it is too hard for him to try to learn anything new right now. Poor guy. I'm sure when he is feeling better he will be rippin up the track!

Got mail today!! I have taken to putting them up on the wall since we have so many. One of the doctor's called it a wall of love. It's true. Please keep him in your prayers tonight...this is not fun.

Betty
I think Scott is feeling better. He is reading his email for the first time in 9 days. His temps were down all night, by down I mean under 100. don't get me wrong he is still very very sick but we are moving in the right direction. Countdown to immune system coming back on line.

The Blood drive is a go - May 10 (Thursday) Manitowoc. Times TBA. So if you are eligible to give, save it for then!

Will post more after the docs come through....

  5. Glad to know your temp is down. Nothing saps energy like a fever. Looking forward to when it's safe to visit again. Keep up the good work. You both are in our thoughts and prayers all the time.

Thought of you today, as Matthew and I were casting for coho in Burnham Harbor. We got a couple hits but no takers. We knew we were in the zone when we could feel them banging their heads on the lures. At this rate, there will be plenty of salmon left when you're ready to fish.
