Another visit to Chicago

Yesterday I went to Chicago for a visit with a Dermatologist and Dr. Frankfurt. I saw the Derm first and she said I do not have graft vs host of the skin. She said something else is causing the itching. She prescribed a topical steroid and a allergy type medication that I can only take in the evening because it causes drowsiness. Like I don't have that problem in the evening already. She will be checking my thyroid to see if that is it, she said it could be high iron in my blood, or any number of unknowns. She said it usually subsides over time. I then went to see Dr. Frankfurt. She said my dry eyes and mouth are graft vs host related, she also agreed that my high iron could be related to the itching. She is letting me take Exjade, the chelation med but they will be monitoring my liver closely. She also put me back on the Voricanazole, (anti fungal):( I was hoping to stay off of that. I am also getting a prescription mouthwash to help with the dry mouth. I got a huge surprise, the nurse handed me a letter from Donor Dan. He said he received a letter from the National Bone Marrow Registry that was written in such a way that he thought I didn't make it. He said he got our letters shortly after that and he was very happy. He sounds like a great guy besides the fact he saved my life. God Bless Donor Dan! I also got to have lunch with my friend Ed. He is about a month behind me and we share information and try to answer each other's questions. It was great to spend time with him. God Bless, Scott
