It's a two update day!! 6PM March 28, 2012
They finally got a culture to produce from the bronchospy. It is legionnaire's - seriously. It is some rare variant Legionella Feeleii. So that is scary, but at least they know what kind of antibiotics to give him to target it. People die from pneumonia's that are a result of that bacteria. All of your prayers and GOD's grace got him through it. That is what was causing the fevers ,chills, everything.
So tonight's prayer - out loud if you can!
Please GOD, let Scott's appetite and tolerance for solid foods come back tomorrow morning. Let him eat well and gain strength to wage his final battle against this cancer. AMEN.

Update 10:35 March 28, 2012 - Our prayers have been answered!!
Not only are his WBC at .6 so is his ANC which is absolute neutrophils, which is a composite of the white blood cells and some other factors. Technically .5 means he is not neutropenic (lack of immune), but he is not out of the woods.
I talked to his doctor last night, asked here for an overview, would we be here weeks, months, are we going home, how does this affect the stem cell...she said lets see what the counts are tomorrow..so she just called again. She wants to send us home as soon as his counts are 1.0 - that could be in as little as 2 days!!!!!!!! He will still be very weak, and very sick, but she and the rounding doctors think he will heal better at home for 2 weeks. Then we will return.
I am almost in shock, tears are close behind. Scott is sleeping, but he smiled, is off the oxygen. and is getting zero IV drugs today. He still can not focus long enough to read an email or card, but He is getting better. It is now just waiting for his numbers and a little more strength. I will truly be his CNA when we get home. Such a wonderful word - home.
I will get more info to everyone when I get it. One thing I do know is we plan to sleep for 3 days nonstop, no phones, no beeping, buzzing, poking or prodding, just peace and quiet, dogs and the first privacy we will have had for 50 days.

ReplyDeleteMickey cut his pad on his L. front paw. Dr. Stef said triple-antibiotic ointment and rest. Might be perfect timing, he could re-coup on daddy's lap :)Get those counts up and the food down! Sorry about his paw. Love and continued prayers, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThat may be GOD's plan, I'm afraid Mickey is going to knock his daddy over when he sees him! Maybe that will slow him down a tad. And no face licking!!! Poor Mickey. I'll call you when we know exactly when we will be home to see if we can coordinate the Mickey exchange.
DeletePraise the Lord!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood God, I'm sure everyone is cheering!! I am so happy to hear this, I can only imagine how good you guys feel. I don't usually pray out loud, but it must work. Whatever it takes!
Yipeee! great news!
ReplyDeleteI cannot f---- believe it. Legionaires. you have the strongest husband in the world to have faced all his adversities. now pour the ensure down his throat. Have they thought of possibly starting him on some TPN. My mom was on it. It went in through the port. TPN stands for temporary (something maybe protein) nutrition. i fbed you with some times that i was hoping we could connect and chat. Til then BF. PS poor mickeys foot i wonder how pookie is fairing from his gun shot wounds....lol
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Dad and Betty. You literally are some of the strongest people ever!!! I cannot believe Dad contracted Legionnares and fought through it with absolutely NO immune system AND without the proper antibiotic. Must have been all the prayers:) I love you both and cannot wait until you come HOME!!!! Ive missed you both sooo much and I cant sleep now that I know it will be soon.
ReplyDeleteTTYL,
Love always,
Erica
